The Caddy Club, Opal, are you ready for Caribbean animated films?

Do you know how good it feels to sit down and watch an animated film with Caribbean characters? You don't? You should because the animation field in the Caribbean has been thriving for 20 years. You didn’t know either? Don’t worry, I had no idea either until 2016 when I watched "Battledream Chronicle" by Martinican film director Alain Bidard. I remember thinking "can this be normalized? Will the next generation of Caribbean children get to build their film culture with content that represents them?" The answer is definitely YES. Here are two projects you need to look forward to:

The Caddy Club

After the award-winning series " Big Man Dan" exploring gender dynamics, filmmaker Kafi Kareem is back with a new project: "The Caddy Club". Hailed as the first feature-length animated film from Trinidad and Tobago, it won the Caribbean Film Mart Best Pitch Prize at the Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival and was selected in the Concept Category at Jamaica’s KingstOOn Animation Conference and Film Festival.

“The Caddy Club” is a musical animated feature about kids in a vacation golf camp who unexpectedly become secret crime-fighting heroes when they discover a magical portal on the golf course.

Just remember how a year ago, an international contest took place to recruit a 2D Designer. Patrick Meikle joined the adventure. Before we get to see Keisha, Akil, Ryan, Jamal and Tameka in action, you can already see what they look like in the poster revealed a few days ago with teen vlogger Eden Wilson aka Lemonerdy (click here for the video).

You can pre-order the film at storyplay.tv. Stay tuned for more info as the release date gets closer.

Opal

Alan Bidard is back with his second full-length film. This time, he’s bringing us a Caribbean tale that I’m sure will become a classic. I said what I said.

Once upon a time there was a magic kingdom where summer lasted forever and where the animals and the inhabitants were immortal. The source of all magic was a young princess called Opal. Legends said that her joy would bring wonders and prosperity to the kingdom. But her sadness would only bring chaos and darkness…

The film is set to have its world premiere in December 2021. Are you excited?
