Caribbean literature and I

Goals

  • Analyze the representations of the Caribbean in literature

  • Share my reading experience

  • Help to give visibility to Caribbean literature and its creators

At the beginning

When I opened my blog myinsaeng.com in 2016, my main focus was to talk about the representation of Black people in cinema and television. I had always been passionate about TV shows and films, but reading literature was my first love. Yet, at that time, my reader life had been on hold for ten years.

Blogging for myinsaeng.com brought me back to the Caribbean literature my teachers had told me about in high school and in junior high school. And things just clicked, my desire to read fiction finally came back. The thrill of reading fiction came back.

In order to never lose this connection to Caribbean culture and to build my digital library, I started writing about the books I was reading and how they made me reflect on my identity as a Black Afrocaribbean woman from Guadeloupe. Sometimes, I even wrote flash reviews on  personal Instagram (@ladyinsaeng). That's how I landed on the Bookstagram planet.

And now…

Exploring Bookstagram led me to the Caribbean bookstagram. Its variety and its depth encouraged me even more to share my readings. #readcaribbean started by Book of Cinz kept me motivated. And here we are today with the launch of my own Caribbean literature section. It's the English version of what I write in French in order to communicate with as many people as possible.

Enjoy your read…
