[English version] "Caribbean Girl NYC"
This is not a review since this series is not yet available, but the trailer has me so hyped that I have to share!
Those who know me know that François Angoston is my Instagram Bae. He's even in my first #DMT Twitter. What can I say ? His physique inspires me. Anyway. This is not the point. About ten days ago, François Angoston shared the trailer for the Caribbean Girl NYC series.
Isabelle (Katia Inamo), a young Guadeloupean woman dreaming of becoming an actress, settles in New York City. Without money and without a visa, she goes through hard times but she can count on her roommates: Tilly (Natalia Elizabeth) from Trinidad, Dana (Jacinth Headlam) from Jamaica and Kate (Yvette Yaya Williams) from Barbados. She also becomes friends (* COUGHS *) with Antoine (François Angoston), a security agent from Haiti.
Let me reiterate… Young Caribbean women. In New York City. And attractive guys everywhere? This is the kind of audiovisual content I've been waiting for all my life. I’m not surprised that it is Mariette Monpierre who brings it tos us.
Personally, I had heard about this director for the first time 2 years ago when I was thinking about opening my blog myinsaeng.com and I looked up for film directors from Guadeloupe. She is one of the first names that appeared in my search engine thanks to her film Le Bonheur d'Elza. (I'm still trying to see it, by the way). I heard about her again with the documentary Entre 2 rives broadcast on Guadeloupe 1ère in March 2017 (great documentary, by the way). In her interviews, she claims to put women at the heart of her art ... Just for that, I support her!
The pilot episode of “Caribbean Girl NYC” premiered at the Caribbean Tales Festival in Toronto in September 2017. I hope the series has been purchased, that it will be produced in its entirety and broadcast. Considering how Chattabox got its little buzz and that @ProudCaribbean has a large following on Twitter, it is obvious that the audience is there, the audience is ready to be represented as universal.
I hope I got you hyped like I was. Now we can impatiently wait together.
