Karukerament EV is Live

Karukerament is a podcast about the representation of the Caribbean in cinema and television.

Why ?

I’m from Guadeloupe. French cinema and television keep spreading such negative stereotypes about the Caribbean that I needed a reminder that we are more than this lazy, stupid, violent, promiscuous image that pop culture gives to Caribbean people. It’s a frustrating situation because this degrading perception affects our lives on a daily basis. This podcast is about defining my Caribbean identity. It’s also about celebrating Caribbean culture. It’s about sharing contents bringing Caribbean people together in our differences and in our similarities.

How ?

The podcast has three segments :

  • Yé Krik Yé Krak: I tell you the plot.

  • Caribbean Connection: I explain how the movie makes me reflect on my (Afro)Caribbean identity.

  • Caribbean Soundtrack: I present you 3 songs related to the overall theme of the episode.

Each Sunday, a new segment (about 15 mins max) will be uploaded. The last Sunday of the month, I’ll post the full version with all segments put together, so the full episode will last about 45 mins. Check out the website for recommandations.
